about me
My name is Laura Castro and I was born in Houston, Texas. I consider myself a passionate and motivated individual. Growing up in the restaurant industry has shown me to be timely, efficient, and constantly prepared for the unexpected.

With that being said I am willing to risk it all in hopes of one day owning my own restaurant. I plan on starting small and to slowly build a name for my company. Studying and living in Austin, Tx has really opened up my eyes in regards to how competitive the food industry really is.

Thus why I'm a Business Administration and Marketing Double Major. Indulging in the food industry has really shaped who I am today. It has taught me interpersonal skills, how to properly run a business and how to work successfully as a team.

Hello! I'm Laura Castro a student from Austin, Tx currently studying abroad in Sorrento, Italy. Attending Sant'Anna during the Spring semester is one of the best decisions I have made so far in regards to my education. I am hopeful that through my time here I will not only learn a third language but also home my leadership, interpersonal, and problem solving skills.
iNTERNATIONAL iNTERNSHIP
Attending Sant'Anna has opened many doors for me, In my time there, I interned for a local restaurant named Kontatto. Kontatto Is located in the heart of beautiful and touristic Sorrento, Italy. The restaurant is made up of some of the most hardworking and personable people I've ever met. Considering the company is just now extending in terms of marketing and advertising, I was the only one working under my supervisor. Technically I had four supervisors over the course of my internship. Although I mainly worked under Antonino. I would help him create possible touristic services as well as content for social media, a future website etc. I can confidently say that I am more than pleased with the position I was given. I would go in Monday-Friday and help them develop and strengthen their social media outreach. Overall expanding Kontatto's brand image. I decided to go into this sector due to my passion for the restaurant industry. As stated before, I hope to one day own a restaurant. There is no better way to learn the business than by working and taking part in one. Especially so culturally different to what I am used to in the States. I love the atmosphere of it and its the fast paced environment.

REFLECTION
Interning and studying abroad has been a great opportunity. In addition to learning things that have enhanced and solidified my knowledge in strategic Marketing and Administration, I have also picked up on a few skills along the way. Living overseas has demanded a certain kind of patience when trying to communicate with locals, teachers, and coworkers. The sudden exposure into the culture can be shocking. Despite this complication, I was able to get past these barriers. The one thing that was the most shocking to me, was the amount of planning that goes into simply getting to your host country. Once there I found myself constantly balancing coursework, workload, and my new lifestyle. You literally start from nothing. You are in a new country with a different language, culture, currency, and transportation. No matter how much research, you never really are prepared for these drastic changes. It was in Italy where I learned how to manage each detail in order to attain a flawless plan. These are two of the many ways in which I have grown to think critically and plan my life logically.
